The Art of Frolicking: Boardwalks

I apologize in advance for the slightly misleading title—this is Another Post About Brooklyn.

I dedicate this section to my favorite Brooklyn destination: the Coney Island Boardwalk. I am a true Coney ambassador and appreciate its unconventional appeal. Coney is “out there,” but also accessible; lively, but also peaceful; quirky, but also cool; slightly janky, yet boatloads of fun. I have lost track of the number of times I have been to Coney, but each visit has been purposeful in its own way.

While I have enjoyed Coney in the company of friends and lovers, over the years it became my special place of refuge; for this reason, I preferred to visit alone. I have traveled to Coney during each season, through various weather conditions, and always by bike. Weekends were for sunrises and people-watching; weekdays were for sunsets and decompression. On several occasions, I spontaneously rode to Coney to watch the full moon shine over the bay.

I am deeply grateful to this space for all the moments, for all the memories, and most importantly, for grounding me. <3
