The Art of Frolicking: Hello Brooklyn

Once upon a time, a former colleague gifted me her copy of AIA’s Guide to New York City (4th Ed.) after we bonded over our shared appreciation of NYC architecture. The book offers a history of New York’s boroughs through an architectural lens, teaching its readers various architectural styles and details. I was inspired to plan a series of bike tours leading to each featured structure in all 5 boroughs, but… let’s just say that the realities of life can sometimes humble lofty ambitions.

Enter Spring 2020.

The Early Days of the Pandemic were a dark and isolating time for many, but they now provided me with an opportunity to explore my city in pursuit of a socially-distant creative project. I dusted off my AIA Guide and began planning my architecture-themed bike tour, focusing on my home borough, Brooklyn, and prioritizing the neighborhoods, details, and/or historical contexts that appealed most to me.

There was no shortage of things to see; each structure is essentially its own work of art.
